Learn dyno tuning and ECU tuning on a free virtual dyno

The fundamentals of engine tuning, written for beginners, next to a browser dyno where you can practise every one of them on a fictional car: edit the VE, lambda, ignition and boost tables, pull the car, read the logs, and see the consequences, up to a broken engine.

ECU tuning is the job of telling the engine computer the truth about the engine: how much air each cylinder takes in, how much fuel that needs, when to fire the spark, and how much boost to allow. A dyno holds the car at full load while you measure power, mixture, knock and temperatures, change one table at a time, and check the result. These pages explain each table and each signal in plain language and in the physics, with the same names your tuning software uses. The app lets you do it: four fictional cars, real-time or instant pulls, logs, diagnostics that explain what went wrong, and engine damage when you get it wrong. Free, no account, nothing leaves your browser.

Outside explanations from working tuners, by section. Each section pairs with a topic above.

Full overview

A whole dyno session from a cold start to a finished map. Watch this before your first session.

Volumetric efficiency

What the VE table really is and why fuel starts there.

Lambda and AFR

Rich, lean, stoich: what the mixture does to power and heat.

Ignition timing and knock

MBT, the knock limit, and the difference between knock and pre-ignition.

Boost

Wastegates, solenoids and how the ECU controls manifold pressure.

Then do it.

Reading explains the table; the dyno teaches it. Pick a car, make a baseline pull and correct the fuel from the wideband, the way a tuner does.
